Now let us bring you here:
By ferry:
You have several BC ferry routes from which to choose.
From Vancouver:
1. Direct: Tsawwassen – Salt Spring Island ( Long Harbour) The Southern Gulf Island service can take between 1 1/2 hours (direct service) to 3 hours (stopping at up to 3 islands en route). In the high season (June 29 – September 7) there are two ships on this route so you have more options. In the quieter months there is only one ferry on this route and sailings are limited. This service is often heavily booked in the high season so we recommend that you reserve your space if you are bringing your car. From Long Harbour terminal to Hedgerow House is approximately 10 minute drive or 15 minutes with the public bus that picks up from all arrivals.
2. Indirect: Tsawwassen – Vancouver Island( Schwarz Bay) and then connect to the ferry Schwarz bay – Fulford Harbour (Salt Spring Island). This trip takes approximately 2 1/2 hours including transfer time in Schwarz Bay. This is often the fastest way to get to Salt Spring Island. Make sure you buy a ‘through fare’ to Salt Spring when you book and be sure you reserve the ferry from Tsawwassen to Schwarz Bay. No reservations on the ferry to Fulford Harbour. From Fulford Harbour to Hedgerow House takes approximately 25 minutes to drive or 30 minutes with the public bus that picks up from the ferry terminal.
3. Indirect: Vancouver ( Horseshoe Bay) – Nanaimo connecting to Crofton – Vesuvius . If you are coming from the North Shore of Vancouver or wish to see something of Vancouver Island, take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to Departure Bay terminal in Nanaimo.( 1 1/2 hours ) Then you have to drive 45 minutes south to the small village of Crofton, where you catch the short ferry to Vesuvius on Salt Spring Island (20 minutes). You can make reservations on the ferry between Vancouver and Nanaimo but not on the short ferry from Crofton to Vesuvius. From Vesuvius it’s a 5-minute drive to Hedgerow House or take the public bus that meets most of the ferry arrivals.
Vancouver International Airport is approximately 45 minutes’ drive from the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. If coming by public transport, take the Canada line from the airport or downtown Vancouver to Bridgeport Station and then the No 620 express bus service to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal (approx 1 hour from downtown Vancouver).
From Victoria:
Take the ferry from Schwartz Bay to Fulford Harbour : Departs every 2 hours. You only pay one way to the island. The route from Fulford Harbour to Hedgerow House takes approximately 25 minutes by car or 30 minutes with the public bus that picks up from the ferry terminal.
From Washington State( USA) :
From Anacortes to Sydney (BC) : Take the Washington State ferries from Anacortes via Friday Harbour to Sydney on Vancouver Island (approx 4 hours). Drive north to Schwarz Bay and follow the instructions shown above for Victoria ferry services.
From Port Angeles – Victoria (BC): Take the Black Ball Ferry from downtown Port Angeles to downtown Victoria ( approx 1 1/2 hours ). Then drive north to Schwarz Bay and follow instructions shown above for Victoria ferry services.
